September 10, 2008 was a monumental day for American Partners Federal Credit Union and Reidsville High School. Many prominent community leaders and school officials attended the grand-opening of the American Partners Ram Branch, a student-run credit union located at Reidsville High School.
This miniature credit union branch is staffed by two student employees that are fully trained to perform teller duties. The faculty, staff, and students at RHS are eligible to join American Partners Federal Credit Union and have the convenience of a branch located right on campus. Open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:40 – 1:40, the Ram Branch offers a wide range of services appropriate for high school students but also useful for the faculty and staff. APFCU has catered a checking account specifically for high school students which comes with a uniquely designed debit card with teens in mind. The following services are offered to any member at the Ram Branch: Free Checking, Free Electronic Services, which includes Teller Touch 24/7, Home Banking and Bill Pay. Members can pay on loans, cash checks, and make deposits and withdrawals.
Since our opening day, APFCU’s Ram Branch has 50+ members including faculty, staff, and students. Each Wednesday is game day in the cafeteria and the students’ excitement on those days is at times overwhelming. Whether we have a cash blowing machine, prize wheel, pudding eating contest, or karaoke, the students flock to participate. Students can win prizes ranging from money deposited into their savings accounts, Pete’s Burgers gift cards, to Ram Branch paraphernalia.
Most importantly, having a student-run credit union on a high school campus allows American Partners the opportunity to teach financial literacy from the moment a student opens an account. APFCU is dedicated to helping educate the kids of today on becoming financially sound adults for tomorrow.
